One of the female French MPs who help the current preside, then interior minister vote the law that closed down all the brothels in France in 2003 is now calling for the brothels to be reintroduced. Chantal Brunel said she has had a change of heart based on evidence that emerged over the six years that brothels in France has been closed. She argued that her original reason for supporting the bill which was to protect women has not come to past as the contrary has been true, more sex workers are exposed to violence even much more than when the brothel existed. She said having a brothel modeled after the Swiss or the Dutch model could help give some of the 30,000 or so prostitutes in France some protection.
